Late last month, Microsoft released the latest upgrade to its OneDrive for Business sync client for the Mac and it will completely change the way you use the service.

Alongside the changes to its Mac program, Microsoft released new additions to the feature set and completely overhauled the iOS apps to include support for OneDrive Business accounts. This allows you to sync your personal and professional documents, photos, videos, and assets across all of your Apple devices without manual upkeep.

This is big. OneDrive has always been the more professional solution for large organizations and businesses, but small to medium-sized businesses usually rely on Dropbox, which isn't very mobile-friendly. Integration with Office software on both Mac and iOS puts Microsoft in a very strong position to attract these business users who don't use Windows phones and have been hesitant to make the change to a more robust platform on their productivity devices.

For personal use, OneDrive allows you to separate your work account and your personal email to keep things segregated appropriately. Microsoft is also offering a bonus to OneDrive users who activate the Camera Backup feature by upgrading their free accounts with 30 extra gigabytes. And next-generation photo tagging and search capabilities allow you to easily find your photos through the iOS apps or through Spotlight Search on Mac.

This is an exciting boost to the OneDrive for Business platform and puts Microsoft further ahead into the cloud storage and access race. We'll see how the competition responds.
