A couple weeks ago, at the SharePoint Online Virtual Summit, there were several noteworthy announcements. The two that really grabbed my attention were “files on demand” and sharing files directly from Windows Explorer. These two updates will ease often heard pains by streamlining the process of finding, editing, and safely sharing documents from a device.

Files on Demand

With an update to Windows 10, Files on Demand will enable you to see all your documents, in OneDrive from Windows Explorer without the space on your device being completely consumed. With a new status icon, all files will be visible and clearly differentiated as online or local to your device. Selecting files for local use you would right click on the file or folder. For those of you that are syncing SharePoint libraries this feature will be available too.

That cumbersome and timely step of having to open your browser and then share a document will be eliminated with a release to Office 365 by Microsoft this summer.  You will be able to directly share internally and externally from Windows Explorer. More information
